About World Food Day
World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16th to commemorate the founding of the FAO in 1945. It aims to raise awareness about hunger, malnutrition, sustainability and food production. In 2024, the poster contest theme focuses on the importance of diverse and healthy diets that are accessible to all.
Eligibility Criteria
The World Food Day Poster Contest is open to children and youth between the ages of 5 and 19, living anywhere in the world. The competition is divided into four age categories:
- 5 to 8 years old
- 9 to 12 years old
- 13 to 15 years old
- 16 to 19 years old
Minors must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate. Only one entry per person is allowed – multiple entries will result in disqualification.
Poster Requirements
Get creative with your poster design! Submissions can be drawn, painted or sketched using any materials such as pens, pencils, crayons, charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, or mixed media. Digitally created artwork is also accepted. However, photographs are not permitted.Feel free to include text on your poster, but use no more than 25 words or 100 characters. Avoid adding any personal information like names, ages or school names.
All artwork must be original and cannot contain any logos or photographic images. Posters must be submitted digitally as a JPEG file through the online entry form. Physical posters will not be accepted, so be sure to take a high-quality photo or scan of your artwork. Dimensions and file sizes are limited, so check the requirements carefully.
How to Apply
Applying is easy and free! Follow these steps to submit your poster:
- Review the poster requirements and make sure your artwork meets the criteria.
- Take a digital photo or scan of your physical poster. Save the file as a JPEG.
- Visit the official FAO World Food Day Poster Contest website.
- Click on the “Enter Now” button. You will be directed to the online entry form.
- Fill out the entry form completely, including your name, age, country and contact information. If you are a minor, provide parent or guardian details.
- Upload your JPEG poster file to the entry form. Include a title and brief description of your artwork.
- Review and accept the terms and conditions.
- Click “Submit” to complete your entry.
The entry period opens on June 3, 2024 at 12:00 PM (CEST) and closes on November 8, 2024 at 12:00 PM (CEST). Mark your calendars and don’t miss the deadline!
Judging Process
Once submissions close in November, a screening committee will evaluate all posters and create a shortlist of 15 entries in each age category (60 posters total). Shortlisted candidates will be notified in December 2024 and receive a certificate of achievement.
A jury will then select three finalists from each age group based on the following criteria:
- Creativity and originality
- Clarity and relevance of the message
- Visual impact and artistic merit
- Technical execution
The top three posters in each category (12 total) will be announced on the World Food Day website, as well as FAO’s social media channels. Winners will be notified individually.
Prizes and Benefits
In addition to global recognition, the top three winners in each age category will receive:
- Promotion on FAO’s social media and by FAO offices worldwide
- A Certificate of Recognition
- A special surprise gift bag
Shortlisted candidates will also receive a certificate acknowledging their achievement. When winning posters are published, the contestant’s first initial, last name and country will be included. No other personal information will be shared.
