The International Water Association (IWA) is excited to announce the launch of its prestigious Leadership Programme for Young Water Professionals (IWA LeaP) in 2024. This transformative 12-month program aims to mobilize a cohort of 12 high-potential young water professionals from diverse regions, genders, and areas of the water sector, empowering them to rise to the leadership challenge and drive positive change in the global water community.

The program provides a strong foundation for building professional networks within the global water community. Program Highlights and Commitment
IWA LeaP is designed to be an immersive and transformative experience. Selected candidates are expected to commit an average of 10 hours per month to program activities.

- A 4-day immersive retreat in a remote setting, allowing participants to reflect as leaders and collaborate on a project to be shared at the end of the program
- Invitation to attend the prestigious IWA 2026 World Water Congress & Exhibition (WWCE) in Glasgow, Scotland
- Opportunities to showcase leadership capacity through professional achievements, experiences in leadership roles within IWA or their organization, and volunteering experiences
- Demonstrating a strong commitment to driving positive change in the water sector, backed by a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
To be considered for IWA LeaP, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Age requirement: Between 18 and 35 years old at the time of application, and no older than 35 at the conclusion of the program in September 2025
- Proficiency in English: Possess a proficient working knowledge of the English language
- Active IWA membership: Maintain active membership of IWA for at least one year at the time of application (membership status will be verified by the IWA Secretariat)
The application period is open until June 28, 2024, and applications are accepted in English. Interested candidates must complete a readiness questionnaire, fill out an online form, send the necessary documents (including a CV, motivation letter, and reference letter from their organization), and accept the terms of the selection process.

Fully Funded Opportunity
IWA LeaP is a fully funded program, covering travel expenses for selected candidates to participate in the immersive retreat and attend the 2026 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition in Glasgow, Scotland.
Covered expenses include:
- Economy class flights
- Single occupancy accommodation
- Daily subsistence
- Ground transportation to and from the airport and venue
- Travel insurance
- Visa application fees
Selected candidates will be responsible for applying for their visas in their respective countries. While IWA cannot guarantee visa application success, they will provide necessary support and information during the process.
