Overview of the Program
The scholarship is for the 14th edition of the International First Level Master Program in Coffee Economics and Science Ernesto Illy. This program is a collaboration between the University of Udine and the University of Trieste, offering a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of the coffee industry. The program is valued at 60 CFU (Formative University Credits) and is designed to provide multidisciplinary preparation throughout the coffee production chain, from cultivation to retail sales.
Courses Available
The Master’s program includes 400 hours of lessons divided into nine educational modules:
- Coffee Economics: Five modules covering the economic aspects of coffee production, trade, and market dynamics.
- Coffee Sciences: Four modules focusing on the scientific and technical aspects of coffee cultivation, processing, and quality control.
The majority of the lessons will be conducted online, with a residential period in Trieste, Italy, lasting 4-5 weeks. The course is taught entirely in English, ensuring that participants gain international exposure and expertise.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Gender: Must be a woman.
- Nationality: Must be of Cameroonian nationality or a refugee living in Cameroon for the last three years.
- Age: Must be younger than 24 years old.
- Educational Background: Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in economics, engineering, science, agriculture, or any other similar/related discipline.
- Previous Scholarships: Must not have previously received this scholarship.
- Current Enrollment: Must be enrolled in a Cameroonian university in a course closely related to the program.
Admission Process
The admission process involves several steps to ensure that the most qualified candidates are selected:
- Document Submission: Applicants must submit the following documents in a single PDF file:A copy of the student’s valid passport and/or identity card.
- A cover and motivation letter.
- An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae in the European format.
- A copy of the student card or receipts and registration form for the current year.
- A letter of recommendation from a teacher in the course of study (University, head of department, etc.).
- A summary (1 page) of an initial idea of the final Project Work.
- Evaluation Committee: An evaluation committee will review the applications in two stages:Stage 1: Review of resumes and cover letters to verify qualifications.
- Stage 2: Interviews to assess the candidate’s experience, skills, and motivation.
Candidates will be assessed based on:
- The academic quality of the applicant.
- Their motivation, including interest in the field of coffee and in UNFPA’s mandate.
- Language skills.
- The final project work idea.
Application Deadline
The application period closes on June 30, 2024, at midnight (WAT). The selected candidate will be contacted by July 6, 2024, and will have 72 hours to accept or decline the opportunity and scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship covers:
- 100% of the university tuition fee (equivalent to 15,000 Euros).
- All teaching materials (textbooks, handouts, and lecture notes) needed for the residential period in Trieste, Italy.
- All meals provided during the days of class in Italy.
- Accommodations for the residential period in Italy.
- The round-trip ticket from the country of origin to Trieste, Italy.
- A subscription for the public transport network of Trieste, Italy (bus) for the residential period.
- The transfer service from and to Venice or Trieste Airport.
However, the scholarship does not cover:
