About the Angus Nicholson Honours Scholarship
The Angus Nicholson Honours Scholarship in Science was established by Mr. Jon Nicholson in memory of his late father, Dr. Angus Nicholson, a dedicated physicist.
It is jointly offered by the ANU College of Health and Medicine and the ANU College of Science.
The objective of the scholarship is to assist an outstanding student who demonstrates a passion for their chosen field of science.
Courses Available
The scholarship is open to students enrolling in the honours year of an undergraduate degree in the following areas:
- Science (Honours)
- Medical Science
- Health Science
Students must be enrolling through either the ANU College of Science or the ANU College of Health and Medicine.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Angus Nicholson Honours Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a domestic or international student
- Have an outstanding academic record in science
- Demonstrate a passion for their chosen field of science
- Be eligible for enrollment or already enrolled in the honours year of an undergraduate science degree at ANU, or be enrolled in an equivalent program at another university but have an offer to study honours at ANU
Students are selected based on their field of study, academic record, demonstrated passion for science, and references from two academic referees.
If two students are equally meritorious, preference may be given to a student planning to study physics, in recognition of Dr. Angus Nicholson’s academic background.
Scholarship Benefits
The Angus Nicholson Honours Scholarship provides the following benefits:
- AUD $10,000 stipend per annum
- Payments made each semester for one year
The scholarship funds can be used to support living costs and study expenses.
It allows recipients to focus on their honours research without financial pressure.
How to Apply
There is no separate application form for this scholarship.
To apply, interested students must:
- Apply for enrollment in an eligible honours program at ANU
- Submit a written letter to [email protected] outlining their passion for science and detailing their academic achievements
- Arrange for two academic referees to submit references commenting on the applicant’s passion and suitability to [email protected]
All required documents must be submitted by the scholarship deadline.
Applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship during the honours admission process.
