Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Shoprite Group bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship
- 27 years old or younger
- Completed Matric
- Enrolled in an applicable undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme
- Minimum overall average of 60-65% (varies by field of study)
- Studying at an accredited South African tertiary institution
Specific requirements vary by bursary category. For example, Accounting (CA Stream) applicants must be pursuing a BCom Accounting or BAcc degree and have a minimum 65% average in Accounting, Auditing and Taxation subjects.
Bursary Coverage and Work Back Agreement
The value of Shoprite bursaries ranges from R30,000 to R70,000 per year, depending on the student’s field of study and institution. The bursary covers:

- Prescribed textbooks
- On-campus accommodation
- Monthly grocery allowance
- Access to Shoprite’s Employee Wellness Programme
