  • Accounting (CA Stream – SAICA)
  • Biological and Agricultural Sciences
  • Criminology
  • Data Science
  • Food Science
  • Information Technology/Systems
  • Retail Business Management
  • Supply Chain & Logistics

Students enrolled in degree programmes in these disciplines at recognized South African tertiary institutions can apply for funding to cover tuition fees and on-campus accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a Shoprite Group bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • 27 years old or younger
  • Completed Matric
  • Enrolled in an applicable undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme
  • Minimum overall average of 60-65% (varies by field of study)
  • Studying at an accredited South African tertiary institution

Specific requirements vary by bursary category. For example, Accounting (CA Stream) applicants must be pursuing a BCom Accounting or BAcc degree and have a minimum 65% average in Accounting, Auditing and Taxation subjects.

Bursary Coverage and Work Back Agreement

The value of Shoprite bursaries ranges from R30,000 to R70,000 per year, depending on the student’s field of study and institution. The bursary covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks
  • On-campus accommodation
  • Monthly grocery allowance
  • Access to Shoprite’s Employee Wellness Programme

Importantly, bursary recipients are required to work for the Shoprite Group for a period equal to the number of years they were funded. This allows graduates to seamlessly enter the business, learn from top industry experts, and explore diverse career paths.
