The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is offering an exciting opportunity for young West African women to pursue master’s degrees in clean energy fields through the Women and Clean Energy in West Africa (WOCEWA) Scholarship and Green Jobs Program.

About the Scholarship
The WOCEWA Scholarship and Green Jobs Program, managed by ECREEE, is designed to contribute to the objectives of the ECOWAS Policy for Gender Mainstreaming in Energy Access.
The project specifically focuses on achieving gender mainstreaming in the private sector and boosting women’s involvement as both consumers and suppliers of clean energy.
By providing scholarships combined with guaranteed internship placements in ECOWAS energy institutions and agencies, ECREEE is working to address the underrepresentation of women in the energy sector and create a pool of future female leaders in this field.
Courses Available
The scholarship supports young women pursuing master’s degrees in energy-related STEM fields with a focus on clean energy.
Eligible courses may include renewable energy engineering, energy policy, sustainable energy management, and other relevant programs offered by universities in West Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the WOCEWA Scholarship 2024, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS Member States
- Have obtained registration in the first year of a master’s degree at a university or institution in West Africa
- Be a female with a background in STEM having an energy focus
- Be no older than 32 years old at the end of 2024
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5/5 (equivalent to Upper Second-Class or 14/20 in the francophone system)
- Not have an existing scholarship from another organization
Note: Any false declaration will result in permanent suspension of support.

The total value of the scholarship is up to US$3,200 per year for a maximum of two years per recipient.
