The program aims to equip participants with the tools and connections they need to tackle Africa’s most pressing challenges in health, agriculture, climate change and more.
The ELISA Scholars Training Program is fully funded, covering travel, accommodation, meals and training costs for selected participants. It is an intensive 2-week program that will be held in the stunning location of Hwange, Zimbabwe.
Hwange is known for its incredible wildlife, with Hwange National Park being the largest natural reserve in Zimbabwe.Who is Eligible to Apply?
To be considered for the ELISA Scholars Training Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of an African country
- Be between the ages of 18-35 years old
- Be currently enrolled in or have completed a degree program in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) at an accredited African institution

- Be proficient in English
- Be available to attend the full 2-week program in Hwange, Zimbabwe

Program Details
The ELISA Scholars Training Program will take place over 2 weeks in Hwange, Zimbabwe. The immersive program will cover a range of topics related to scientific leadership, research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Attend lectures and workshops led by leading African and international scientists, innovators and thought leaders
- Gain practical skills in areas such as research methods, scientific writing, intellectual property, commercialization, etc.
- Visit local research institutions, startups and industries to see science in action
- Develop a project proposal to address a specific African challenge, with feedback from expert mentors
- Network with peers from across Africa and build long-term collaborations
- Experience the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Zimbabwe through organized excursions
The program will be delivered in English. Participants will be expected to actively engage in all sessions and complete assigned projects. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate and join the prestigious ELISA Scholars alumni network.
